If you’re on your financial independence journey and it feels isolating, I get that. It’s conflicting wanting to share your wins but you’re worried about sounding boastful / unrelatable.

So where do the cool people hangout?

Before I started talking on the internet, only my parents, my partner and maybe some close friends knew that I was trying to be work optional by 45. It’s still something I keep hidden in real life, but posting in the internet keeps that hard sometimes!

Money’s such a taboo topic that I don’t really want to disclose it.

financial independence, fire movement, hannah montana, work optional by 45, finding your fire community, talking about money with friends, fi people, feeling isolated, money is taboo, coast fi

25x your spending. That’s the FI number the 4% rule tells you. It’s a good start, but it’s not specific enough.

Save and share this with someone who thinks the 25x rule is actually a rule and not a guide.

It assumes success just means not running out of money. It runs on U.S. returns.
And it was only tested over one length of retirement (30 years)
If you’re planning to quit at 45 or 50, it’s more like a 3-3.5% safe withdrawal rate (28.5x - 33x your income). So do some recalculating!

Comment “calculator”. This one’s apparently contested, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

25 hours of financial independence videos, for anyone who wants to be work optional and doesn’t know where to start.

Me personally? I’m coastin’ - if my income grows enough I’ll think about the retiring early part.

Videos mentioned:
1. Humphrey Yang: EVERY Strategy to Retire Early Explained
2. The Plain Bagel: The Truth About FIRE - Is Early Retirement Actually Possible?
3. Mckenzie Mack: I Can Retire at 50! How Coast FIRE Changed My Life

Comment YouTube for the links. Save and share this with someone you want to retire early with. Stick around for more financial independence content!

one of earth’s biggest scams is leading us to believe that we should work 9-5 till 65.

I’m 35 trying to be work optional by 45 and I’ve been on this financial independence journey for 10 years.

If this resonates, come join me! I swear I’m fun.

I watch a lot of financial independence videos on Youtube, and here’s a crash course for people who are looking to be work optional but are a little overwhelmed.

My credentials? I watch a lot of these videos and am in year 10 of my financial independence journey.

Me personally? I’m coastin’ - if my income grows enough I’ll think about the retiring early part.

Videos mentioned:
1. Humphrey Yang: EVERY Strategy to Retire Early Explained (yeah this one is a repeat but it gives you an overview of everything FIRE)
2. The Plain Bagel: The Truth About FIRE - Is Early Retirement Actually Possible?
3. Mckenzie Mack: I Can Retire at 50! How Coast FIRE Changed My Life

Also just realized the audio plays for an extra 15 seconds after the video ends. Sorry!
