skatemaxxing as a competitive artistic roller skater 🛼🤍 i wanted to dedicate this post to my competitive skate journey & my transformation as a skater because of it. i only started competing in artistic roller skating 3 years ago, but somehow those 3 years changed me completely. the craziest part is that i started this sport as an adult. every practice, every lesson, every competition, every costume, every flight… funded entirely by me. no sponsors, no external funding, no financial backing… just me being deeply in love with a minority sport & sacrificing everything for it. my whole life revolved around competitive skating, and in all the in-between moments, I was doing everything I could to fund it. working, planning, sacrificing, and building my life around the rink so I could keep showing up. for the past 3 years, my entire world was one goal: make it to nationals & become the best skater i could possibly be. there were so many moments i wanted to quit. physically, mentally, financially. but hearing that i won after carrying the pressure of those 3 years on my shoulders felt surreal. i don’t think people realize how emotional it is to prove to yourself that you can persevere. especially when you constantly feel “too old” to still be chasing big dreams. becoming Marie Antoinette ended up teaching me more about life than skating. about ambition, pressure, femininity, sacrifice, reinvention, and even endings. and maybe that’s why it hurts so much to say this chapter is over. i haven’t publicly shared this yet, even though technically i retired from competing last august, but i’m officially not competing this season 🥺 i think part of me avoided saying it out loud because it made everything feel final. but the reality is: sometimes loving something deeply also means knowing when to let it go. i always told myself i wanted to stop at a peak, not at a low, and somehow i got to do exactly that. Marie Antoinette couldn’t have come to life without the incredible training from @candai and the help of @figures_and_loops - thank you both for believing in me & helping me bring this vision to life 👸🏼🎂🎀 continued in the comments 🤍
